The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as a Non-Destructive Liquid Penetrant Testing Technician (NDTT)
A Non-Destructive Liquid Penetrant Testing Technician (NDT Level II) applies a wide range of non-invasive analysis techniques used in science, engineering and industry to evaluate the properties of a material, component or system. A Non-Destructive Liquid Penetrant Testing Technician is able to set up and calibrate equipment (up to a point depending on the nature of the calibration), conduct the inspection according to procedures, interpret, evaluate and document results in all the testing method(s).
A Non-Destructive Liquid Penetrant Testing Technician mentors and supervises Non-Destructive Liquid Penetrant Testing Operators. A Non-Destructive Liquid Penetrant Testing Technician also organises and documents the results of inspections and must be familiar with all applicable codes, standards, and other documents that control the liquid penetrant testing method(s) being utilised. A Non-Destructive Liquid Penetrant Testing Operator (NDT Level I), on the other hand, simply follows instructions prescribed to them by the technician. They record the test results and, if any anomalies are detected, escalate them to the technician. It must be noted that all training and certification for a Non-Destructive Liquid Penetrant Testing Operator and a Non-Destructive Liquid Penetrant Testing Technician are governed by international standards like ISO TR 25107, ASNT CP 105 and IAEA Tecdoc 628. Compliance with these documents is mandatory should inspections relating to international codes be conducted.
